How to Potty Train Your Puppy

The crazy thing is that most people don’t do any of these things because they have never been told exactly what to do.

Nobody has ever explained how important these little things are when you are toilet training your puppy.

  1. Don’t Get Angry at the Puppy

You wouldn’t get mad at your baby for not being potty trained would you? Of course not! You also can’t blame the puppy for not being toilet trained. Don’t hit them with the newspaper or rub their nose in it or scold them.  Train them when and where to pee and poop.

  1. Reinforce the goal

Just because the puppy pees or poops in the right place one time does not mean they are potty trained. Keep reinforcing that behavior and rewarding your puppy with every time they go in the right place. It’s called motivation. Remember to reward them right away so they link the reward with the behavior.

  1. Be Patient with your Puppy

Puppies are young and small. We don’t even start potty training children until they are at least 2 years old. We start potty training puppies at 8 weeks old. Remember that they are still learning and it will take time. Be Patient with your puppy.

When it comes to potty training your puppy there is no magic formula. There are however, tips and tricks that can make the process go a lot smoother for you and your puppy.

  1. Get the Right Equipment

Leaving your puppy out to roam the house while you are trying to potty train him sets him up for failure. Get a crate or a playpen that will confine him to a certain area of the home. Use puppy pee pads in the crate or playpen in case of accidents.
